As a business manager your decisions, proposals and plans often have to be reduced to writing and the ability to communicate your thoughts persuasively and succinctly is important. </p> <p style="text-align: justify;">The purpose of the Academic Writing course is to enable students to obtain a particular level of writing proficiency. You will be given the opportunity to practice, hone and enhance your ability to write concisely and persuasively during the Business Communication for Impact Course. To this end, being logical and systematic in our thinking drives my passion for solving problems; it permeates the breaking down of seemingly complex problems into manageable pieces that we can understand and solve.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">My passion is thus to provide you with the tools of logical thinking to solve problems. Numeracy provides the foundation of this.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">I often get told: “I am struggling… struggling to understand numbers at the same level of my peers and colleagues. I struggle… Every number is a challenge… I hate numbers…”</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">My response is: This should never be the case, numbers permeate your daily life, and by following a set of foundation numerical rules, this can be changed. And it has changed the way many have viewed numbers. The videos are aimed at giving you some insight and comfort with numbers, and the activities are aimed at maximising your ability and eventual comfort with numbers.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">This course will comprise of seven sections.  Each section will have a logical flow with videos and activities for you to work through.  You may at any stage go back to a previous section for revision purposes.  For each section there will also be a discussion board where I would like to encourage you to ask questions that you might still have after working through a section.  Once you have completed a section, based on the marks you earned for the tests, you will receive a badge - go to the My Badges link to view the badges and the compilation of the badges. </p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Good luck! She has worked in the USA, the UK and Southern Africa. She started her career as a researcher in the House of Commons. She then moved to Stanford University in California where she helped to develop curriculum across different departments for undergraduate students. In 1996 she arrived in Johannesburg as the HR Manager for the international consulting firm Bain & Company, where she was responsible for the full remit of HR policies, a position she held for seven years.</span><br /><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Since 2003 Amy has focused on executive and corporate development, by helping individuals and teams achieve their goals. She is considered to be a specialist individual and team coach, and is also an integrator and facilitator. She sits on the coaching panel at GIBS, AIG and Nedbank. </span><br /><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">At GIBS, Amy is a professional associate who works with the MBAs as a mentor and lecturer on characteristics of academic writing. Amy works as a coach and integrator for corporate programmes in Southern Africa. She has been involved in projects in Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya and South Africa.</span> <span><span><br /><br /></span></span><span style="font-size: 10.0pt;"></span></p> <p><strong>Manoj Chiba</strong></p> <p><span><span><img src="//d24jp206mxeyfm.cloudfront.net/assets/courseware/v1/cedfbaaedea6d1750ac746fbdb6e7374/asset-v1:gibslx+GIBS_PostGradPrep2020+2020+type@asset+block/ManojChiba-optimised.jpg" alt="Manoj Chiba" width="159" height="186" /><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Manoj Chiba is a management professional with over 10 years of senior management experience. He has a Msc (WITS), MBA (GIBS), and is currently studying towards his DBA (GIBS). He is currently principal consultant and data analyst specialist for ATBM Advisory.</span><br /><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Manoj has consulted to over 50 companies and serves as a non-executive director on three boards. He continues to advise companies' EXCO’s and delivers operational projects across industries. </span><br /><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">His passion is driving the triple bottom line through evidence based research. Some of the work includes price-setting strategies, market share analysis and strategic input.
