GIBS Post Graduate Preparation Course

About This Course

This course is divided into two components, Academic Writing and Numeracy. The aim of these two components is to assist students in building their academic writing, analytical thinking, problem solving and basic numeracy skills. This course is designed to prepare students for the rigour of Postgraduate learning.

Requirements

As part of the requirements for your programme, you should have a minimum of an undergraduate degree or advanced diploma at NQF7.

Amy has a BA in English and Politics and a Masters in Political Science from the London School of Economics. She has worked in the USA, the UK and Southern Africa. She started her career as a researcher in the House of Commons. She then moved to Stanford University in California where she helped to develop curriculum across different departments for undergraduate students. In 1996 she arrived in Johannesburg as the HR Manager for the international consulting firm Bain & Company, where she was responsible for the full remit of HR policies, a position she held for seven years. Since 2003 Amy has focused on executive and corporate development, by helping individuals and teams achieve their goals. She is considered to be a specialist individual and team coach, and is also an integrator and facilitator. She sits on the coaching panel at GIBS, AIG and Nedbank. At GIBS, Amy is a professional associate who works with the MBAs as a mentor and lecturer on characteristics of academic writing. Amy works as a coach and integrator for corporate programmes in Southern Africa. She has been involved in projects in Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya and South Africa.

Manoj Chiba is a management professional with over 10 years of senior management experience. He has a Msc (WITS), MBA (GIBS), and is currently studying towards his DBA (GIBS). He is currently principal consultant and data analyst specialist for ATBM Advisory. Manoj has consulted to over 50 companies and serves as a non-executive director on three boards. He continues to advise companies' EXCO’s and delivers operational projects across industries. His passion is driving the triple bottom line through evidence based research. Some of the work includes price-setting strategies, market share analysis and strategic input. Manoj has a strong passion for education at the grass-roots level, and assists in finding solutions to the youth unemployment issue in South Africa. He lectures MBA students at GIBS on Analytical Tools and Techniques and supervises MBA research projects.
